The manufacturer informs:
Overview
Highly concentrated calcium ion solution.
It increases calcium concentration in marine aquaria, providing one of the most important elements for growth for corals and other reef-building invertebrates.
Calcium is in ionic rather than chelated form and does not contain unwanted organic matter such as EDTA, gluconate, or polygluconate.
Stronger than the 50% of most competing products.
Free of phosphate, silicate and organic matter.
Formulated by a marine scientist.
Technical Background
Calcium is one of the prevailing ions in seawater and is essential for the formation of aragonite, the material from which the skeleton of reef-building invertebrates such as corals, bivalve molluscs, tube worms, etc. is made. In seawater, Calcium is present at a concentration of about 412 ppm; in reef aquaria, keeping Calcium in the range of 412 - 450 ppm will allow corals and other reef-building organisms to grow rapidly if the other physical and chemical requirements are met. [Magnesium, Strontium, and carbonate ions are also present in aragonite, and their importance in a reef aquarium cannot be underestimated]. The rate at which Calcium is withdrawn from the water is determined by the population density of reef-building organisms, the type of light, and other biological, physical and chemical conditions, so each aquarium will have different needs in the frequency of Calcium intake. Once the degree of calcium consumption in the tank has been calculated, the appropriate dosage of this product can be easily determined. We recommend using a salt with a suitable alkalinity (not too high) and an appropriate concentration of major, minor and trace elements in order to recreate the essential parameters of natural seawater in the aquarium and maintain a stable ionic balance.
All Brightwell Aquatics liquid supplements are made from purified water and high-purity materials.
Instructions and Guidelines
BeginnersShake the bottle well before use. Add 5 ml of product per 200 litres of aquarium water every other day, or as required, to maintain the calcium concentration in a range of 412 - 450 ppm. When used in this way, 250 ml of product treats up to approximately 9,500 litres of water.
Experts: Determine the calcium concentration in the aquarium using a precision test before supplementing. Shake the product thoroughly before each use. Each ml of Calcion will increase the calcium concentration ("[Ca2+]") in 3.785 litres of water by approximately 40 ppm. If the initial concentration of [Ca2+] ions in the aquarium is below 412 ppm, administer the product at a maximum dosage of 10 ml per 75.70 litres per day until the desired Calcium concentration is achieved, then dose daily or weekly as required. Always try to keep Calcium within a range of +/-10 ppm.
To determine the dosing frequency of this product once the desired Calcium concentration has been reached, measure the consumption of Calcium in the aquarium daily by measuring it at the same time each day for a period of 1-2 weeks. To determine the daily dosage (preferable to weekly dosing) required to allow Calcium levels to be maintained, estimate the volume of water present in the whole aquarium system, divide the drop in Calcium level by 40, multiply this number by the volume of water present in the system to obtain the daily dosage required (in ml) to maintain a stable Calcium level. Daily dosing allows for more stable [Ca2+] levels (and a more natural environment) than weekly dosing, which causes a peak in Calcium immediately after dosing and a gradual decline during the course of the week.
Attention: Keep out of reach of children. Not suitable for human use.
