Overview

Natural volcanic ash with beneficial properties for plant growth and long-term care of fish and invertebrates requiring water conditions with low GH and slight acidity.

Ideal for use as substrate in biotope aquaria for shrimps.

It binds elements that increase hardness, lowering GH and producing slight acidification of alkaline water at a pH below 7. 

Used as a primary substrate, it provides a stable growth base for aquarium plants with roots through:

1. the development of a strong root system.

2. the support of nutrient uptake through the roots by means of increased interstitial water circulation (compared to high-density substrates) and an acidic pH environment.

3. the ability of the roots to remain sufficiently oxygenated, keeping the plants healthy.

Technical Background

In wooded and riverine areas, the concentration of nutrients in the water column tends to be low per se, and most of the nutrients are concentrated in the substrate that makes up the river bottom; these nutrients are mainly present as a result of the continuous accumulation of mineral and organic sediments carried by the current upstream to downstream. The water chemistry in these river environments tends to be slightly to moderately acidic and generally low in elements that contribute to total hardness (GH). The plants endemic to these locations, which make up the majority of the species commonly grown in aquaria, obtain a considerable percentage of their nutrients through their roots; it is therefore correct to employ a substrate for their growth that facilitates the supply of nutrients to the roots and at the same time fortifies the growth of the root system and the long-term health of the plants.

Altrettanto corretto è dunque mantenere piante, pesci ed invertebrati (come le varie specie di gamberetti allevate in acquari a loro dedicati o come mangiatori di alghe) endemici di queste aree in condizioni dell’acqua simili a quelle nelle quali si sono evolute, specialmente in termini di pH e minerali contenuti, ed è probabile avere un risvolto positivo sulla loro salute. FlorinVolcanīt Rio Café-F è composto da ceneri vulcaniche naturali che hanno preso forma di particolato simile a perle oblunghe. Le perline sono solide ma tuttavia flessibili e sono abbastanza resistenti da mantenere la loro forma per uno o più anni, a seconda della chimica specifica dell’acqua del sistema (un’acqua tendenzialmente alcalina deteriorerà il materiale più rapidamente di un acqua meno alcalina in partenza). Rio Café-XF abbassa gradualmente il GH ed il pH per ricreare le condizioni favorevoli ad una gestione a lungo termine di piante, pesci ed invertebrati endemici dei corsi d’acqua della foresta pluviale, dei fiumi e delle pozze.

Instructions and Guidelines

In genere non è necessario sciacquare Rio Café-F prima di posizionarlo in un nuovo acquario; dal momento che questo è un materiale naturale, è possibile che possano essere presenti nella 

confezione piccoli pezzi di legno. Consultare un affidabile fonte di informazione per le specifiche esigenze di profondità del substrato delle piante che si andranno ad ospitare e procedere secondo quelle direttive. Assicurarsi che l’acquario sia vuoto e pulito (se aggiunto in acquari già riempiti con acqua, la renderà temporaneamente torbida). Aggiungere Rio-Café-F fino all’altezza del substrato desiderata; volendo il substrato può essere inclinato dal vetro frontale verso il vetro posteriore. Si può impiegare della sabbia minerale per migliorare l’aspetto del layout, se desiderato. Preparare un volume di acqua sufficiente a riempire il sistema regolandone i valori di pH, alcalinità e durezza. Aggiungere in acquario, lentamente e senza rovinare il fondo, acqua sufficiente a coprire a malapena il substrato, quindi cominciare a piantare e, quando terminato, ricominciare a riempire lentamente tutto l’acquario fino al livello desiderato con l’acqua rimanente. Grazie alla struttura semi aperta del susbstrato ed alla risultante aumentata diffusione dell’acqua attraverso questo, è possibile impiegare integratori e fertilizzanti liquidi , invece di prodotti solidi, con il massimo controllo della chimica dell’acqua ed i migliori risultati. Il metodo più rapido per avviare la colonizzazione del fondale da parte dei batteri benefici è impiegando FlorinBacter secondo le istruzioni consigliate. Gli altri fertilizzanti della linea Florin possono essere impiegati in base a necessità. Con il tempo, la capacità di Rio Café di neutralizzare diminuisce ed il substrato può essere sostituito come deisderato. L’uso tamponi per l’alcalinità (buffer) e prodotti per aumentare il pH accelererà il deterioramento del substrato. Non usare con filtri sottosabbia.
