The manufacturer informs:

Ultra-porous biological material with superior performance characteristics

Overview

It utilises NanoIntelex technology to create a better material with a large surface area suitable for colonisation by beneficial nitrifying bacteria, leading to rapid and efficient conversion of ammonia into nitrites and nitrates.

The synthetic biological filter material with the highest colonisable surface area/volume ratio.

Higher efficiency compared to the results of conventional filter media: smaller space requirements to achieve equivalent nitrification.

It can be used to rapidly lower ammonia and nitrite concentrations even in the busiest aquaria.

Can be used in conjunction with Xport-NO3 and Xport-PO4

Instructions and Guidelines

Read the instructions before use. Using a mechanical pre-filter to remove organic particulate from the water before it interacts with this material will improve its effectiveness. Rinse Xport-BIO in purified water or fresh water with low TDS, then place the material in a clean bucket and fill it with water from the aquarium in which you are going to use the product. Pour 20 ml of MicroBacter7 (poured into the bucket and dispersed by hand) for every 150 g of Xport-BIO, then allow the material to remain in this 'bath' for 24 hours at room temperature. Remove Xport-BIO from the bucket and pour the water into the aquarium, then place Xport-BIO in an external filter, reactor or 800µm filter sock; a water flow of 1-3 times the volume of the aquarium per hour is recommended. Do not use in fluidised bed filters. Remove and rinse ~33% of the total product used in a bucket of waste aquarium water (when changing water) once or twice a month, and re-use the product again. Add 1 ml of MicroBacter7 per 76 litres approx. in the aquarium, in an area of strong water flow, to strengthen the filter material after rinsing.

Xport-BIO is not a chemical filter material; it must be activated with the appropriate bacteria to start nitrification. Simply placing the Xport-BIO in a mature aquarium will slowly activate the filter material, but activating it with MicroBacter7 as directed will shorten the time considerably and give faster results. In all systems, start with a ratio of 150gr of Xport-BIO per 1136 litres (300 gallons). Nitrification will usually begin after one day; the rate of nitrification increases with time (usually matures in 2 weeks) and the concentration of Nitrogen in the system. If plants and/or zooxanthellate invertebrates (e.g. corals, tridacne, etc.) seem to react negatively to the use of Xport-BIO, it may be a sign that Nitrogen is being removed too aggressively; NeoNitro or FlorinGro can provide Nitrogen in the form of nitrate and, if necessary, feed the zooxanthellate invertebrates with appropriate food. Note that the amount of Xport-BIO required may change as the system reaches maturity and/or changes in population density; systems with high nutrient concentrations may require a higher Xport-BIO/water volume ratio, this can be inferred from the persistent presence of ammonia regardless of the dosage of Microbacter7.
