The manufacturer informs:

The FR512 is a substantial fluidised reactor with a twist-off bayonet lid to allow easy access for media replacement. Water is pushed down a central tube and returned through a diffuser plate. Sponges are mounted on either side of the media section to retain finer particles. Deltec fluidised bed filters can also be used as biological filters for the breakdown of Ammonium/Ammonia and Nitrites.

The lid is equipped with a tap to regulate the flow and two hosetails connected to the fittings for easy removal or to allow the use of rigid hoses.

Only one sponge is supplied with the FR ballasts for technical reasons.

The bottom diffuser plate is sufficient to retain the material from the bottom and any fine particles are ejected from the bottom chamber when the water starts to flow.

If you have a bottom sponge, the water continuously passing through the reactor brings with it debris that slowly blocks the sponge. In extreme cases, the sponge may start to move in the chamber with the force of the water beneath it.

An upper sponge is required to prevent material from being ejected from the reactor and into the tank. This sponge will also collect the same debris, however the difference is that the top sponge is easy to remove and clean without emptying the reactor.

Maintenance:

Every time the filter material is renewed, carry out a thorough cleaning of the FR filter and, if necessary, replace the sponges. When necessary, the central discharge pipe with the lower perforated plate and sponge can be pulled out completely for cleaning.
